AIDS and HIV
Where can I get information about HIV/AIDS?
- From your local health department, family planning centers and community health clinics. Planned Parenthood centers across the state provide HIV/AIDS information. Call Planned Parenthood at 1-800-230-PLAN. Many areas have AIDS projects, listed in the community services section of your phone book. There is also a toll-free National AIDS Hotline at: 1-800-342-AIDS. Any calls or visits are strictly confidential.
-
Where can I be tested for HIV/AIDS?
- The places listed above can either provide testing or can refer you for testing.
-
Will my parents have to know if I'm being tested?
- No. Your parents do not have to be told if you go for an HIV test.
-
If I test positive, what happens next?
- No one will be told. A counselor will discuss with you whether you feel you can tell your parent(s) or guardian(s). The law does not make you tell your sex partner(s), although you are encouraged to. The counselor will help you make the best decisions about your next steps.
