Getting Birth Control from PPC
If you are interested in birth control methods, there are several ways Planned Parenthood can provide it to you. Here is some information about different ways to get it. If you see a choice that you believe best meets your needs, please mention it when you come to your local Planned Parenthood health
center. Our staff will review your medical history and help you make the best choice for
you.

HAVE A FULL EXAM Most of our
patients choose this option. Having a yearly
gynecological exam including a breast exam and PAP
test is the best way to maintain good reproductive
health. Many patients also request screening for
sexually transmitted infections (including HIV) at
their yearly exam.
HAVE YOUR EXAM AT ANOTHER DOCTOR'S OFFICE
Planned Parenthood will accept exam records from
another doctor or practice. The gynecological exam
must have been done for you within the last 12
months. We need copies of your records including the
physical exam and PAP test results. Most private
doctors will ask you to sign a release form, and
will send the records directly to us.
DEFERRED OR DELAYED EXAM Do you
want to start birth control but aren't ready for an
exam? A clinician may be able to defer your exam for
up to three months and still provide you with
hormonal birth control. A review of your health
history will determine if this option is available
to you.
DON'T HAVE AN EXAM (not available at all
our centers) If you do not have risk
factors for breast and cervical cancer, sexually
transmitted diseases or hormone use, you may be
eligible for birth control without an exam and PAP
test. Many experts feel that today's hormonal
contraceptives are so safe, an exam is not needed in
some cases. Planned Parenthood's staff will review
your health history to determine if this is the best
option for you.
